Before You Go
Sri Lanka rewards a little preparation. A few things every visitor should know.
West & south coast: November–April. East coast: May–September. Hill country: year-round with slight wet season Oct–Jan.
Most nationalities need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Apply online in advance through the official Sri Lanka immigration portal.
Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). ATMs widely available. Cards accepted at tourist establishments. Carry cash for tuk-tuks and local restaurants.
The scenic hill country train (Kandy–Ella) is a highlight. Tuk-tuks for short hops; private drivers popular for multi-day touring.
