Little bit about Weligama Surfing
The Weligama Beach is home to one of Sri Lanka’s most sought after surfing locations. It is an ideal location for surfing novices and aficionados alike. The Weligama Beach break is a long stretch of beach which envelops the bay and becomes larger as you head towards Mirissa.
Gurubebila Coconut Point: The picturesque bay of Gurubebila is a reef break that offers lefts and rights galore. Located near Weligama Bay, this is a place for the more advanced surfers as it has a bigger swell. A secluded area, which will serve as your own private surfing paradise.
Surfing at Mirissa has picked up as a very trendy engagement for the traveller down south. So much so that many local establishments have popped up offering boards for rent and surfing lessons. The boards used are of a very high quality and the instructors are friendly and supportive which make for an unforgettable surfing experience.
When you are tired of the surf, which we doubt you will be, head on over to one of the many surf bars riddled across the beach for a zesty island treat. The swell at Weligama is as good as it gets for the avid surfer visiting our island paradise.
There are plenty of options if you are planning to rent a surfboard; generally the price is arond LKR 1,000 per day. If you are a beginer, there are plenty of surf schools and surf camps.
