Little bit about Wadda Pani Ella Falls
Wadda Peni Ella Falls is located in a wonderful piece of land surrounded by the margin of Knuckles Forest Reserve. It is nurtured by the waters of Thelgamu oya, and boasts for enriched bio diversity with endemic aquatic species.
The fall can be seen on the way in Manigala Hike, so it's a perfect place to have a good rest on the way. There's a bridge over the waterfall, where you can have a good view.
There's a folklore about how this fall got its name; once a 'wedda' (a member of a minority indigenous group of people in Sri Lanka)
while on his way with some honey(peni), fell into a deadly dip when crossing the fall and died. Hence the Laggala folks started calling it Wedda Peni Ella.
Anyone visits Wedda Pani Ella has to be highly cautious as the fall can flash flood at times. Camping, fishing, littering, and campfires are prohibited in the premises.
