Also known as ‘Kuttam Pokuna’, twin ponds stands evidencing a great accomplishment that is based on the field of hydrological engineering with excellent form of structural and imaginative demonstrations in ancient Sri Lanka. As the name implies, there are two ponds connected to each other: a smaller pond constructed initially and a bigger pond that was constructed at a later stage. Although the actual period of construction is not exactly known, it is believed the twin ponds are built several hundreds of years ago, and probably used by the Buddhist monks for bathing. Water to these ponds is supplied through underground pipelines. The pond is decorated abundantly with unique designs that cannot be seen in any other pond.
