Little bit about Rumassala
Rumassala, kown as the mythical mountain of Galle, is a secluded paradise located in Unawatuna. This idyllic landscape is a stretch of pristine beach surrounded by a lush green forest and surrounded by a shoulder like mountain range which gives this beachhead an almost mystical appearance. Known mostly to locals, way off the beaten path, it was known as Buono Vista during colonial times,
giving anchorage to ships due to its cove like structure.
The Rumassala hill is home to many rare medicinal herbs and plants not found anywhere else in the country. The local villagers attribute this to the Legend of Hanuman, the Monkey Warrior, who, when flying a piece of the Himalaya mountain range is said to have dropped a piece at Rumassala.
This is an ideal place to enjoy a refreshing swim, sunbathe or just relax, taking in the amazing views the bay has to offer.
