Little bit about Ravana Ella Falls
The waterfall flowing from the misty mountains of 25 meters high in Ella is one of the widest falls in the country. It is known to be an attractive sight-seeing place in the island of Sri Lanka. This is located just off the Ella – Kithalella Road and is a part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary which is just 6km away from Ella train station. The waterfall has been named after King Ravana. According to the Indian epic Ramayanaya, king Ravana had kidnapped Indian king Rama’s wife Seetha from India and kept her in a hidden cave behind the falls as a revenge. The cave was surrounded with thick forests in the midst of wilderness This gushing waterfall is glorious to watch during the rainy season and Ravana falls resembles the petals of a beautiful flower during the peak season of its water flow.
Most of the visitors do not forget to spend some time in the natural pool. Since it is a safe shallow it is a fabulous place to have a bath. But be cautious all the time, stones and surface are very slippery.
