Little bit about Parakrama Samudraya Tank

‘Not a single drop of rain that falls down should mix with the grounds without being used for cultivation’ – This was the thought of King Parakramabahu, who constructed the biggest reservoir to store the rainwater. ‘Samudraya’ literally means an ocean that depicts the real big size of the reservoir and irrigates about 18,000 acres of paddy fields for two seasons a year. Parakrama Samudraya is also known as the sea of King Parakramabahu. The shallow reservoir consists of three separate reservoirs that have been interconnected by narrow channels in the city of Polonnaruwa. Do not miss to stop by the reservoir and enjoy the cool breeze in middle of the warmer city. The rainwater reservoir is in its full capacity, full flow with the roar of the waves and the wind and splendor during the rainy seasons.
