Little bit about National Museum Colombo
The National Museum of Colombo, also known as the Sri Lanka National Museum, is one of the two museums of Colombo. Thus, it is the largest found in Sri Lanka. The Department of National Museum of the Central Government has taken over the maintenance of the museum. Many ancient monuments and the thrones and crowns of the Kandyan Monarchs which are of much importance to Sri Lanka are found in this museum. Several branch museums were opened in Jaffna, Kandy and Rathnapura under the supervision of P.E.P Deraniyagala, the national museum was also named during his period of time.
Along with the Museum, the library was established, it was then served as the nucleus of the library collection by collecting the local publications during the past 129 years. The photography division of the department of national museums was established in 1950. This museum is a treat to visit for those interested in history.
