Little bit about Lankathilaka Viharaya

The Lankathilaka Vihara located in Hivarapitiya, is otherwise known as the Blue temple. This is a wonderful structure that has been entirely built on an uneven rock and the size somehow rises to a height of around 80ft. Beautiful sculptures are those that make the thick outer walls an architectural mind of the era. Lankathilaka was dedicated for the purpose of worshipping the Lord Buddha. The architecture of the temple was designed by a South Indian architect using Sinhalese architecture of Polonnaruwa era and was constructed as a four leveled building that overlooks the Hantane mountain range. The image house of the Lankatilaka is enriched by five Gods and God Kumara Bandara is believed to be the deity, who protects the temple Lankatilaka.
