Little bit about Kawdulla National Park

The national park was inaugurated on the 1st April in the year 2002 and regarded as the 15th park in the country. It is located 197 kilometers away from Colombo. Prior to establishing Kawdulla National park, it was one of the 16 irrigation tanks constructed by King Mahasen many centuries ago. All that was abandoned, until it was renovated again and the park was designed.

This national park is recognized as an important bird area. It also has a whole range of plants and animals of all kinds like large mammals, fish and even reptiles. Many plant and grass species grow well during the rainy season, whilst there is an abundance of food and water, even in the dry period attracting a large number of herbivorous mammals to the park.

It is a must-visit place for nature lovers and animal lovers.
