Little bit about Galle Fort
Galle Fort also known as Dutch Fort, is a fortification first built by the Portuguese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. The fort built by the Portuguese was very basic and made out of mud and surrounded by palisades or stakewalks. There were three bastions and a single rampart. The town which was located inside the fort at the time of Dutch invasion, is still there. The streets laid in a rectangular grid and low gabled houses and terraces in the Dutch colonial style are still the same. The Town offers many historic churches, mosques as well as government and commercial structures which have withstood the ages.
