Little bit about Ella Wala Falls
If you are planning to stay 2 or 3 days in Ella this is an awesome place to visit.
The best landmark to locate the fall is, Rathmal wehera buddist temple, which is situated 20 kms from Ella on Ella – Wellawaya road (3 kms from Wellawaya if you are coming from Wellawaya). You need to take the road opposite to the temple to reach Ella Wala falls.
Its about 9 kms form the Rathmal wehera buddist temple and you can go upto about 7 kms from the vehicle. Road conditions are not that great, so it is highly recommended to travel by a 4x4 or else you can hire a Tuk Tuk. Make sure that you are ready to walk few kilometres if required, based on the road conditions.
Although it’s a bit of a hectic journey, you will love this hidden waterfall surrounded by the lush green jungle. You can have a nice bath in the natural pool and have some fun time if you are a water lover.
Things to know before you go
- It is safe to have a bath in the natural pool, but be extra cautious specially on rainy days as the water level could go up dramatically
- Keep in mind since the waterfall in located inside the jungle, area is no very populated at all. Thus finding help in an emergency situation will not be easy
