Little bit about Dhowa Rock Temple
The Dhowa Rock Temple is also known as the Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya. This temple is mainly known for its rock wall which is adorned with beautiful paintings and sculptures. This temple is well-known for its 12 meter unfinished Lord Buddha rock statue, which is believed to be carved 2,000 years ago by the King Walagamba, this was done while he was hiding for some time during the foreign conquests. It is also stated that this statue was left uncompleted by the King.
This temple is located within a ring of mountains with a river that flows across the plateau. The natural beauty of the rock temple, the statue, paintings and ornamental gateway are the most appealing. Most people believe that this ancient treasure is a must see and feel lucky to have visited the place.
