Devil’s Staircase is actually a 14 km long trail located in Horton Plains, Central Sri Lanka. This trail to Devil’s Staircase is an absolute challenge with a bumpy and adventurous ride, so all risk lovers gonna love it. To make it more thrilling, one side of the road is almost open to the vast stretch of slopy valleys.
You can start the trail at Horton Plains road in Ohiya. This trail is best recommended for seasoned hikers, if not, you can travel on bikes or four-wheel drive.
On the way to Devil’s Staircase, there are several special spots to come across that make the journey interesting for the travelers. One is ‘the V cut’ which is a channel cut through the hill to pass through. Another one is a tributary of the highest waterfalls in Sri Lanka; you need to cross it with your vehicles carefully.
As the most precious part of the journey, travelers can witness the Bambarakanda Falls (Sri Lanka’s highest waterfall) on the way, which falls mightily in a height of 863 feet. Also, there are four other waterfalls you can visit along the road. When looking from the Devil’s Staircase, the views created by nature’s wonders are mesmerizing that a hike lover shouldn’t miss.
